PROCEDURES OF SOIL SAMPLING

  • Obtain clean and complete equipments to use
  • Determine the area to be sampled so as to know how many samples to take i.e. (field should not exceed 5 ha of land).
  • Choose the method that will be used to collect samples

  • Choose the sites from which the samples will be collected
  • Clear all surface vegetation at the selected sites to exclude plant material which is found of decomposing
  • Collect the samples from a depth of about 15 cm
  • Add all samples from specific depth to make a composite sample
  • Thoroughly mix the composite samples by breaking the big clods into small particles.
  • Make 2 labels for each representative sample with the following information; Person taking the sample and Address, Areas sampled, Field Number, Equipment used, Date of sampling, Purpose of sampling, Depth of sampling




  • Take the samples to the lab and all dry them
  • Carry out the intended analysis and record outcomes
